Methodology

How we research northern lights and Arctic winter options.

Our Editorial Philosophy

A good aurora trip depends on your dates, budget and tolerance for cold. We compare options using cited sources, then explain the tradeoffs.

How We Rank Options

Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:

  1. 1

    Aurora conditions

Latitude, dark skies, light pollution and typical cloud cover for the place and month.

  2. 2

    Trip fit

Match the traveler, timing, budget and the decision the guide addresses.

  3. 3

    Scope

Check what a tour, stay or safari includes: duration, group size, transport and winter clothing.

  4. 4

    Evidence

Cite factual claims and identify unsupported or uncertain details.

What We Don't Rank By

Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.

  • ✗Affiliate commission rates
  • ✗Paid placement
  • ✗Invented visits
  • ✗Sighting guarantees

Where Our Data Comes From

Our recommendations synthesize multiple signal types. We prioritize signals in this order:

  1. 1. Tourism offices and operators

    Official descriptions, seasons and products

  2. 2. Accommodation and service providers

Direct descriptions of rooms, services and booking terms

  3. 3. Space-weather and climate services

Published explanations of aurora activity, darkness and typical weather

Handling Uncertainty

When a source doesn't confirm a detail, the guide says so and points you to the operator page to check. We'd rather be clear about what is published than guess.
